A good addition to any photographer's book collection

A somewhat dated but still useful guide to photography of a wide variety of subjects in a wide variety of conditions. Absolute beginners may find it a little overwhelming, but perseverance will definitely pay off. I think the best way to read the book it to use the author's photography suggestions as examples: Don't try to remember everything he said, try to understand why he said it. It's this learn-by-example approach that is the real strength of the book.

I gave it to my 8 year-old niece. She likes it. It can be a little difficult to read for lack of sufficient white space. This is not a damnation of it though; the lack of white space results from so much information being contained. Adequate white space would require 1,000 pages or more. The photographs were taken with a point-and-shoot camera; but even though it isn't in the title, that is one point of the book - showing most people how to shoot most photographs in most situations they will encounter with equipment that most people will have.

I purchase this book months ago and it has been a good guide in helping take photos. It has pages and pages of photos, the the camera settings used to take the particular photo are right under the photo. Helps with getting proper setting for particular lighting. Would highly recommend.
